Welcome to the legal aid map. This map visualizes data relating to the provision of legal aid in England and Wales.

Zoom in and out of the map using the "+" and "-" buttons above. Click on an area of the map to return information relating to that location.

The map layers panel is activated by pressing the map layers icon on the left-hand side. Each map layer depicts disparities in areas of the UK in the form of provision and demand of legal aid. Provision (Legal Help or Civil Representation) is displayed for each area of law separately, and is shown using procurement area boundaries, which all differ depending on the type of law selected.

From the layers tab, it is possible to change the map layers according to legal area; (housing, community care, immigration and asylum and also welfare.

Additional map layers have been created to convey the distance to legal assistance for the most deprived areas, according to the Index of Multiple Deprivation for both England and Wales. using this map layer it is possible to see areas that may be considered 'legal deserts,' where provision may be required but is in short supply.
